Supreme Governor Ernest W. "Bill" Myers 1929 - 2000 Ernest William Myers, who had been elected Supreme
Governor of the Loyal Order of Moose at the 112th International Convention in Chicago last May, died early Sunday, Nov. 26
in Washington, DC, after suffering a rupture in his aorta, the main artery away from his heart. He was 71. Mr.
Myers was visiting College Park, MD Lodge 453 - the 218th Lodge he had visited during less than six months as Supreme Governor
- on the evening of Nov. 25 when he fell ill. He was taken by ambulance to Washington Memorial Hospital, where emergency room
physicians discovered he had an aortic aneurysm - essentially, a weakened and bubbled-out wall in the primary artery carrying
blood from the heart. Emergency open-heart surgery was undertaken for more than seven hours to attempt to repair the aorta,
but this was unsuccessful, and Mr. Myers died about 6 a.m. Eastern time. Mr. Myers, of West Duluth, MN Lodge 1478,
had been traveling North America since June in a 34-foot motor home with his wife, Karen. He was easily the fraternity's busiest
presiding officer of recent years; the couple had visited more Lodges in the first half of his one-year term than most Supreme
Governors do in an entire year. In addition to his wife, Mr. Myers is survived by three grown children, David, Donald,
and Debra; seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Funeral arrangements are pending. Mr. Myers family asked
that contributions in the late Supreme Governor's name be made to Moose Charities/Life Care, Mooseheart, IL 60539-1100.
